I have lived in New England my whole life. As a matter of fact, I have lived in the same city my whole life and unless I win a huge lottery jackpot, I’ll probably be here forever. I live on the North Shore of Massachusetts which is about twenty six miles north of Boston. I don’t live on the immediate coast, but it’s only a mile from my house so I guess you could say I live close enough to the coast.
I have weathered many blizzards including the infamous Blizzard of 1978 when we were completely paralyzed from the amount of snow and wind that hammered us for three days. We were out of school for a month. Oh those were the days (heavy sigh)! Now that I am retired and just a tad bit older, I have this to say about it; “I HATE SNOW!”
I’m looking out my kitchen window and staring at a six and a half foot wall of snow from the blizzard we just got clobbered with a few days ago and again, we are under another winter storm warning. This time they’re expecting 15-24 inches of snow on top of the more than 3 feet we got from the last storm. Where the hell are we going to put it? I probably won’t see my backyard again until April.
I remember as a kid staying outside for hours playing in the snow until I couldn’t feel my legs or face. Now I get that way just opening my freezer door. (Another heavy sigh…) Maybe the weather Gods will look down on me and take pity and assist me in finding a way to move someplace warm and sunny. Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?
Well, it’s time to batten down the hatches, go make some awesome comfort food and munchies to eat, watch the Patriots kick some butt in the Super Bowl and wait for all that annoying white stuff called snow to screw up our lives at the highest level. Would anyone from the warm south like to adopt me for a few months? I’m a really great cook and I do windows too!
